1. Yeah, there's a diaphragm... it sounds like it's just getting old, or *maybe* you've got the hoses on the wrong spots.
2. Only convertibles came with the door lock switch; the hardtops didn't. Your son's car is acting the way it was designed at the factory - same as all the hardtops.
