dont want to ruin finish: removal of foam spoiler?

The foam tail (spoiler?) on the trunk of our 87 sedan is starting to pucker and warp badly in spots. From one of the corners I've been able to peel away, it looks to be attached by double-sided mounting tape. Wondering:
1. After peeling the piece away, what is the safe removal of the tape residue so as not to ruin finish? and,
2. is there a way to straighten (& rid of puckering) and potentially save this piece? we like it's aesthetic and would prefer to re-apply (with similar double-sided tape i assume... or epoxy of some kind??). I'm sure there's some suppliers that i could buy new from, but would like to try saving a few $$
thanks
