anyway to bypass a failed turbo?

My 1989 900T has about 216,000 miles on it. About a week ago I'd got a little smoke after sitting at a red light. Now I get a lot of smoke after stopping or coming off highway speeds and once it starts, it just keeps going. Engine temp is fine, coolant level seems to be fine. From what I've read, this is a turbo bearing failure.
The car is pretty well rusted out. There is very little floor under my feet other than carpet. At a tire shop, an old timer said not to drive over 35mph for fear that the car would break in half on me. So I don't think it's worth having the turbo fixed. It would be fun to try to rebuild it myself but it's winter and I don't have a garage. I've tried some "No Smoke" additive but that hasn't helped. It's sad, I bought her at 135,000 nearly 8 years ago for about $3000. Super reliable but aging. I wanted to hit 20 years old but that's ok. Chicks don't seem to appreciate her like I do, anyway.
Basically, just want her to hang on another month while I look for something new. Is it going to make matters worse to continue to drive a little bit (maybe a month) apart from people staring? In case I have the heart to sell or give her away, I don't want to make things unfixable for someone who wants parts.
Thanks so much,
Andy
