Agreed... I've done it both ways, and the core+valve is a lot more work, but much less time consuming. If you're patient and adverse to taking things apart, you actually need to remove very little to do the heater control valve. But, if you don't mind taking lots of stuff apart, dismantling the whole bottom part of the dash and removing the two together will take less time and result in less cursing. :)
