1. Yep. I've changed a whole bunch of cars to synthetic, all at over 120k, and none of them leaked any worse (where applicable) than pre-synth.
2. Search the BB for the real fix. Someone has posted instructions to modify 1992-1994 convertibles (and '92-'93 hardtops) backward to the '88-'91 cruise control unit. The '92 and later ones are notorious for having bad solder joints and some kind of thermal reed switch that blows open over 50 degrees ambient. I tried getting a "remanufactured" unit available from sponsor number 2 this time last year. It worked for two weeks.
Mine's Le Mans blue (see gallery). I also love my 8 valve '88 (last year). Where do you live? Another $10- obviously not NY since C900s don't exist here anymore. Make me rich!
Also a possibility during your coolant-drained operations: change the NTC sensor (coolant temp sensor which communicates with the injection brains). When checking your vacuum lines, if the car has run recently, pull the hose off the pressure regulator (cylindrical thing at the end of the fuel rail). The vacuum line will be saturated with oil residue, that's normal. It'll be a little slimy or wet as the fuel and oil vapors bleed through it. However, if there is any liquid fuel inside this line, the regulator is bad and needs to be replaced.
Your red was pictured in the '92 full line sales brochure, but it was a turbo.
