The leak could also be from the rubber "plugs" inserted into the floor borad I think when the paint is applied (could be wrong). The area around them rusts easily and the plug falls out.
There has been extensive debate on this board about the best approach (btw - check your passenger side too since it seems even more prone). Some say welding in a metal patch is the only route to go, others like the 3m bonding technique - both seem to require a fair amount of effort and would be worth it if you are trying to retain value. Myself I used several layers of fibreglass patch after preparing the bare sheet metal with POR15 - this stuff is great and there is no substitute - but I will likely never risk using the jacking point unless I absolutely have to (eg emergency road side tire R and R) and know that the car is worth only something to me as a winterbound daily driver.
Suggest whatever route you go pull up the entire carpet from front to back.
