headligh wiper faulty cause of shorted diode. Known?

Hi, folks. Just got a new (ok-ok, used but very nice looking) headlight motor picked up and installed. The previous one got worn out completely (pinion kaput) so I installed the new one and... Washer started to work for 4-5 secs instead of just that very time that I pull the switch. I mean I pull the switch, release it and water keeps on running for extra 4-5 seconds after that. The fix was rather quick. You're to add (or soler out the old one and solder the new one in) a diode to the yellow wire. Cathode (|-mark) should be pointed to motor. I used 5A diode. Some of you can find it to be overkill but I love darn margin of safety. I didn't make any shots while getting this fixed. Sorry. Hint: to find out what h/l wiper is causing this issue either plug one out and check if it gets better or not (if you unplug the right one then water will splash just while you're pulling the switch) or ask assistant to play with the switch while you're starring at both h/l-wipers. The water will stop splashing right at the same time when worn motor parks. Zig
