ES-12a is a hydrocarbon blend - basically propane and some other gasses! It takes much less than it would with R12 or 134, so it's easy to overfill. It's often easier to drain the whole system and refill by weight, than pressure (OK to do with HC mixes since they are dirt cheap and don't mess up the environment.
Filling by pressure is very tricky since you will get many different pressures depending on how fast the engine is running, whether the radiator fan is running, etc, and the abbreviated directions most of the HC-12 sites give don't really explain.
Do you have a real set of AC gauges or just a cheap whip? Harbor Freight has as good set of cheap gauges for only $30 is you can find the right catalog (they vary price from catalog to catalog outrageously) which is well worth the price.
