Man that was fast!
The atomization I'm talking about is what is done to the liquid petrol to mix it with the incoming air. The petrol is forced throug a fuel injector (in our case) and atomized into a spray that easily mixes with the intake air (which incidently only has about 21% oxygen).
Obviously it must take quite a bit of energy to pump the petrol and force it through a pressurized system to get a less-efficient resulting cumbustion than you can get with a suplimental HHO generator (which adds pure oxygen as well as hydrogen). Even if the efficiency is suplimental it surely should be considered an improvement.
Ex: I have a friend who just built an energy-efficient home. All the water that comes from the drains in his hot-water-using fixtures (i.e. dishwasher, shower, etc.) goes to an apperatus that extracts the latent heat from it. That in turn is used to preheat the water in his hot-water tank. Yes, it took energy to heat the water before it went down the drain, but recycling that preheated water offers economies of scale in the next heating cycle.
