1. Calorific value petrol vs hydrogen: 44000 vs 142900 kilojoules. That's per kilogram (sorry guys, but I'm working with SI units so there'll be no imperial gallons or lbs).
1.1 1 kilogram of H is either 11 liters of air at normal conditions or 0,015 liter of liquid in deep sub-zero temperatures and huge pressures. Check cryotechs on google.
1.2 1 kilogram of petrol is about 1.4 liters of liquid at normal conditions
Total: hydrogen wins (3.5:1 ratio!) in calorific value but loses (completely) when we start talking about storage.
2. Energy to pump: E=mGH, where m is the mass, G=9.81 (constant) and H is the delta between H1 and H2 (the height one and height two). Say 1Kg lifted by one meter is having 1x9.81x1=9.81 kilojoules of potential power (or you're to spend 9.81 kilojoules to lift 1Kg to 1 meter). Sorry but I'm not clear about atomization you're talking about.
