doesn't take too long for the seals and such, Posted by nicknick [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Re: austin-did you get an entire engine and transmission?, Austin Underwood, Thu, 29 May 2008 11:50:36 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
you have to stop the flywheel from turning to undo crank pulley. after that it is 10 minutes max.
HG is much easier when out. no doubt. put new intake and exhaust gaskets on. remove turbo bracket. leave turbo attached. remove oil feeder and return. don't seperate turbo from exhaust. pull man/turbo unit from engine then do HG. remember to turn engine a couple of times after setting chain timing to recheck TWICE the timing. (heck, check it 3 times!). when setting chain timing, use marks on outside of sprockets to align perpendicular to head. don't use the stupid marks on the inside that match up (almost!) to the camshaft end cap.
make sure you always rotate the engine from the crank pulley in the direction of normal rotation.
check torque on every bolt you can see. especially engine/trans.if there is evidence of any oil leaking from the pass side bolts, remove and reseal these bolts with the thread sealer. much easier now than later.
sounds like you are going to be leaving slave in car, then bleeding clutch. pinch off flex line before disconnect. be ready for a PITA bleed job, and you will be fine.
also, nice 'disc brake type' wheel bearing grease for inner drive shaft/drive cup deal (after a nice clean up job, of course).
check inner drivers for wear. swap with yours if required.
BTW, freakin' awesome deal!!! hope it all works out as planned. one last thing; better to phone in sick monday am than rush the car...
