modifying the front pulley

I heard a short screech today while checking voltages as the engine was running (87 900 turbo).
The belts and tensioning are fine, the only thing I can think of is the front pulley might be starting to slip. Naturally I'll spend 4-5 hours reading here on the board about other Saab owner stories performing this repair job. And it seems like there's anguish from some owners in regard to Scantech pulleys, how they start to prematurely separate from their rubber liners.
I recall a moment in a Saab shop years ago where I saw one tech had modified a new pulley by drilling three equidistant 5- or 6-millimeter holes into the rubberized gap between the two pulley sections. He had then threaded the holes and screwed in three recessed hex-head threaded pins. He glanced over at my concentration and said something about "making the pulley last a lot longer."
Has anyone done or heard of something like this mod? When it comes time to do this job, I'll replace the pulley, the oil seal and the front crank seal. And then, I don't wanna do it again for another 100K miles.
At least.
But I want to be ready.
