From a COLD start, run car just a bit, and shut it off. Then touch your fingertips to the exhaust manifold, before it really heats up. You'll feel heat at the legs from the cylinders that are firing, but it will still be cold at the ones that are skipping.
Once you know that, BEFORE another cold start, pull the plugs at the mis-firing cylinders and look close at them. You're looking for water or coolant, or for traces of rust on the spark plug tip. Crank the motor and see if anything spits out of the plug hole.
My guess is that despite your not smelling coolant, it IS a coolant leak-head gasket situation - - white smoke, clears up after running a bit. If I were going to throw money at it to try to analyze it I'd spend the money on that before the turbo.
Valve stem leaks would yield oil smoke, not white smoke, and 900s don't get this problem bad, usually. If you do a head gasket you'll get new valve stem seals and get them installed as part of it, so curing any trouble from that front at the same time.
