If you can't afford to fix it now, put it away until you can. Even if 5 years passes and you still haven't fixed it, I'd almost guarantee it will be worth more then. Car culture is full of; "I wish I'd kept that car" stories. Hell, I've heard my own father say that about his 1958 Impala convertible. He began looking for a restorable one back in the 80s. $15k would barely get him a car in "restorable" condition. I don't think I need to explain what that means.
If it were me, (and it's not), I'd bite the bullet, get her fixed and then really appreciate the fact that I did when I'm driving the car 10 years from now. If you think you like the car now, I'm sure you'll love it when you're driving one of the few left on the road. Of course as a classic T-Bird owner, you probably already know that. :-)
