Appologies to Ozzy........
So yes, I am a pain in the butt. I always have been. But then, I am extremely obsessive & do VERY good work.
To clarify a few things;
'BS' & I are siblings. I presently have a very serious, very emotionally draining domestic situation that 'BS' is unbelievably insensitive to & for the time being I am (understandably) NOT someone to trifle with. Seriously. 'BS' brought me his car (150mi trip one way) to work on as previously arranged despite my having told him that "NOW IS NOT A GOOD TIME". Given that 'BS' used some of his vacation to bring me the car, I am effecting the repairs...though much more slowly than usual & I hope to deliver the car back to him Tuesday (about x1 week after receiving it).
Here is what I am repairing/replacing:
- RR timing chain tensioner
- RR Alt bushings (discovered ng during tensioner repl...not a fun job)
- RR clutch & rear main seal [a x4hr $850+ job at local Saab indie]
- RR turbo (x2hr job at local Saab indie)
- RR spedo/odometer
- RR dashboard & facicia
- Install CD player & x4 speakers...w/new monster cable time permitting.
Details:
New style (used, OE Saab) timing tensioner was supplied by me.
Alt bushings (new, polyurethane) were supplied by me.
Clutch (used, 40k) was supplied by me - I removed it from 'BS' old drive train after installing a good motor w/rblt trans into his other c900t x9yrs ago. Therefore, as it was to be junked...my time to remove it = clutch is mine...not to mention that I've stored it for x9yrs! I have also purchased a new slave cyl, throw out & pilot bearings, shaft seal & rear main seal to the tune of $120 from eEuroparts. I will be having the flywheel resurfaced tomorrow ($40?).
Turbo (used) was supplied by me...small crack in the turbine bore, minimal shaft play...necessary to install due to the orig turbo being so friggin' shot - (took it out this evening - never seen worse, 1/2" play in shaft...HUGE crack nearly splitting the turbine housing in two pieces). I will install a second repl. unit at enormous discount (case of beer) when & if 'BS' ever procures it.
Odo repair - I am doing this myself (sucessfully did mine last year) - I understand this is worth $200 sans removal & reinstalation (covered w/dash & facia labor).
Dash & Facia supplied by 'BS'. However, the dash was FILTHY & it took me over an hour to clean it, then treat it w/Mothers "back to black" due to chalky appearance. The Facia was in need of cleaning as well (nasty vents + schmeg & snot from prev owner) & is from a base model w/o power mirrors, so I have to modify it to accept the PM switches. Additionally, the vacuum control hookup & cig lighter are missing, so I'll have to transf. these items over from the old facia...prob another 45min to do this, taking due care.
CD player & speakers - Supplied by me - high end Pioneer (used, 2yrs old, exc cond).
I figure all this would easily cost upwards of $1800 at most places. This rant is more for the edification of 'BS' than anything else, but I welcome input on the matter (really) from those of you on the board who have taken the time to read it. I regret subjecting all of you to this soap opera - it's been a really tough month for me & it's not over yet.
