I am having my brother do the work for a few reasons - he does good work and points out that it's potentially better than I'll get from a true mechanic + Why pay someone I don't know when I can pay my brother, right? The problem surfaces when we figure out how the work should be done. He knows a lot more than me so I yield to his decisions, but sometimes my common sense and gut instincts get pushed into thin air. To clarify, I am paying for the turbo replacement and will potentially throw him some beer for a second replacement if this one doesn't work. He may be saving me $400 for a rebuild but he also might be wasting his own energy if it doesn't work but I understand why he's doing it. He spend 8 straight hours pulling apart a parts car, instead of sleeping, and the prize was this turbo which does have some play and little crack (don't ask - I am not privy to exactly what the turbo may or may not have wrong with it).
