1. You say it's your radio that is draining the battery. That doesn't sound likely to me but maybe. Anyway, pulling radio out should stop that, OR pulling fuse. And you say it doesn't stop the drain. So you or someone should be looking elsewhere.
2. You say you "got the go ahead from SaabRadio to buy new system." By "SaabRadio" do you mean Wasyl, who does business under that name and advertises on here? If so he knows his stuff. But then you say you got the vin # from "person who sold radio" so does that mean that is NOT Wasyl? Did Wasyl know the radio you were considering buying? Can he help you?
Good question: "Can we dismantle the radio and look at something like a set switch that would give us the code?" I think the code is likely on there on some form of programmable memory chip, maybe readable but not easy.
Another dealer than the one you tried might be far more helpful, as noted above.
As to the radio, post on here as full a description of what you bought as you can, year of your car, and year and model of car the radio is said to come from, and any serial numbers on it. (Is it identical to the one that was in the car?) Someone on here may be able to help. (Many people on here say the original radio is not up to modern standards and put a new modern radio in, others are purists.)
Back to the battery that needs charging after sitting: Maybe it's a charging system problem - - do any warning lights stay on while you're running? (Also, how old is the battery, and what quality grade?) Lots of times people will be sold a new battery and it will work for a while - - as long as the original charge in it lasts. If it's a really good battery, it can seem to cure the problem because it will last a long time before dying. All this when the real problem is failure to charge.
Do your brake lights ever stick on? THAT will kill a battery fast.
Does the little light in the trunk ever stay on? Will kill a battery but slower.
