8 valve CIS -broken fuel line at cold start, update Posted by Mike in KC [Email] (#1679) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Mike in KC) on Fri, 12 Dec 2008 20:51:29 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Well removed the line from the car (1984 900T 8 V), drained out gas, blew out line, cut off bad end of line, prepped the fitting. First used hair dryer, 1875w, doesn't get nylon tubing hot enough to fit over fitting, tried a lighter, gets it soft, but couldn't heat evenly around diameter of tubing. Decided at that point to bail for now, the line is now to short to reach the fitting when installed. So I'm headed to pick-n-pull on Sat. to find a CIS VW Rabbit/Audi, mid 80's for CIS braided SS CIS lines. Noted that imprinted on the original black tubing is the following;
"5 x 1mm Saab 83208 3 19 83". This leads one to think the tubing is 5mm OD x 1mm ID, but I measured tubing and it's 5mm OD x 3 mm ID. So anyway the tubing I ordered from McMaster-Carr is too small, but I'll order the correct size and get a heat gun to try installing the line on the fittings. For now I will opt for the VW part, hopefully one of the pick-n-pulls has something that will work. Sorry such a long post. THX for the advice.
