Well, went to the 1st pick-n-pull today after failed attempt to fix the old line. Really wasn't sure I'd find a VW old enough, but there was one 83 Rabbit there and sure enough it had the stainless steel mesh injector line, which I pulled and then I went looking for Saab as usual and low and behold there sitting like a sweet little lady was a 1984 900 NA 8 VALVE. The injector lines were gone, but all the black lines were there and intact, actually in great shape, so I snagged those as well. Installed the exact replacement line and it works like a charm. No leak. So now on to other things. Replaced the fuel filter, air filter, oil, NGK plugs and all the vacuum lines I could. Checked the timing, cleaned the throttle body due a high idle, which was there before the fuel issue. The idle adjustment screw had no effect at all, so cleaned throttle plate again, this time removed the screw and blasted out the seat of the adjust screw, still same idle, about 1500. I believe the previous owner had used the throttle stop screw to set the idle, though why at 1500? I just adjusted it down to 900RPM and she's much happier now, now the idle adjust screw adjusts the idle when turned. So much more to learn about this vintage, but I really like the car. Next project is to add a intercooler and give this sweet Red 1984 900T 4DR on tan leather a name. Everyhting seems to be working now, except cruise. I found a smashed vacuum line under the coolant tank, replaced that but forgot to check the cruise while test driving, oh well that's tomorrow job.
