"I posted on here about 10 years ago my fix for the infamous leaking heater valve. The plunger that moves up and down vertically passes thru an O ring for a seal. I found that it was possible to disassemble the unit, and using a pick, picked out the worn-out O ring, and replacing it with a new one, complete with plumbers grease. The key here is NOT to break off the retaining plastic ring at the for the O ring... no glue will touch it for gluing it back in place.
Kinda like replacing the O ring in a kitchen tap.. replace the O ring, not the tap (ditto for the heater valve)."
