If you don't care about the emergency brake,
then you can update to the 88 and newer brakes, and if you are doing that then suggest you get the 9000 90 and newer front calipers, rotors, and pads.
You will need a rear axle off a 1988-1993 c900 as the spindles are different size, find one with a good hubs too they are expensive. you will need the newer style wheels too. fronts you can just get the hub pressed out of the knuckle, or take the entire unit from upper to lower ball joint and swap that out (or move the ball joints as needed). You can use the 1988 and newer c900 front caliper/rotor/pads but if you can go to the 9000 stuff for the fronts why not, it's a direct bolt on without any issues. We race 86's and 87's that way. Justin will concur.
The emergency brake stuff will now be on the rear caliper so the actuator cables from the lever inside will be all wrong, there are articles about moving to the rear if you want to do it. Also, the 1990- 9000 rear caliper/rotor/pads are the same as the 1988- c900, but you NEED the rear axle. You can get any year from 1988- up to the 1993 HOWEVER you will need to move the existing solid brake lines from your axle to the new one IF it's from a car with ABS. metal hose clamps holding the plastic standoffs (you'll see them and recognize this) onto the new axle work very well as the ABS only runs a "T" fitting onto the rear axle. The preABS runs home run lines from each caliper to the dual connections that go into the rear of the car under the right side passenger seat. All of the connections you need to work on for this are underneath and will most likely need mass quantities of PB blaster for several days to be happy.
It's really all a bolt on, other than any rust. You may have to change the rear axle brace attachment hardward depending upon... the bolt may not fit and you will need to move bushings over to get the correct ID on the bolt bushing sleeve. Again, you'll recognize this when you get there. on EPC it's under rear suspension, 7 suspension system, section 190, item 4, and the bushing is item 5.
don't forget to do a brake bleed, the old fashioned way of a buddy in the seat, five pumps and hold, 9mm six point please deep reach socket to bleed, repeat five times per caliper and you should be good to go. Don't forget to check the res as it may go empty and you have to start over... boo!
