No dash lights, no start, can't jump it at all

So I went to leave work this evening and she wouldn't start. Not like all the lights came on and she wouldn't turn over--nothing. So I called CAA and they sent someone to jump my car. Connected my battery to the truck and nothing. At first a slight click and the dash lights blinked but then nothing. Wierd thing is my dome light and my day time running lights work? Also, if I try to start it with the dome on, it goes off and stays off for several seconds.
Could fused plates in the battery cause a short when he tried to jump it causing it not to start with a jump? Can't see that its the starter or ignition coil, but loathe the thought that its a grounding issue of somekind. Can't get it out of my head though that maybe its still the battery.
Please help, I'm taking her into a Saab specialist in the morning, but if its something I can fix I'd sooner save the $$$.
THANKS.
