1979-1993 & 94 Conv [Subscribe to Daily Digest] |
About 5 months ago after buying a new to me 1990 sedan 2.1 five speed, I began solving issues. One that surfaced seemed to be a bad fuel pump. Engine would not start. I could not hear the fuel pump. I replaced the fuel filter, and used a donor used fuel pump, housing complete from my 1994 900 T vert. Well When test driving it and at other times well seldom used, it would buck and hesitate when warm. well I let it sit about 4 months (starting it and letting ti run about 1 =X a week. I had the 92 hatch back which ran as a dauily driver until about 2-3 weeks ago when the head gasket went. Sooo I started using the sedan. The bucking problem seemed fixed for the time I have been driving it, but the weather has been cold. Now the past 2 days weather is warm and car is now bucking again when heated up or when outside temp is "warm" Last evening it was about 70 outside and the engine started it's bucking on way home. I looked at some things like coil and plugs. Plugs very clean/white so mixture is lean. This a.m on way to work waether is cooler and no bucking. Heres what I think, but I need your input. 1. I can hear the fuel pump but the time I did a fuel flow check the output seemed very scare. I have read on this site that if the fuel pump is strong enough to start the engine it is OK. 2. The 94 used pump was weak or no good, and that the mixture is very lean due to low fuel delivery and the warmer air leans it to a poor mixture so it is not burning properly. I have considered getting another new pump, but I am having problems finding the proper pump as the 90 2.1 seems to be a transition year. One pump I bought new was too large for the original pump housing. I guess I should be looking for a 93-94 pump to put in the 94 housing. I know the fuel pressure (whats it called) is diffgerent for the 2.1 than the 2.0 T.Where can fuel be richened? Thanks in advance for all I am about to receive. oh Lord.
