In some ways, it's inevitable. There's a finite supply of good bodies out there, and that supply is dwindling due to rust and collisions. The store of replacement parts is probably shrinking too. making it more expensive to keep the cars maintained, hence driving up the value. Saab independents are probably going to be harder and harder to find, making repairs beyond our DIY level more difficult.
Sometimes I feel bad that I'm 'consuming' my car by driving it. There are a lot of miles left, but it's a finite number. Is it a mistake to use it for commuting? Will I regret not keeping it parked except for occasional weekend joyrides? Perhaps, especially given our rush-hour traffic, but it's tough to take the station wagon instead of the convertible when it's 70 and sunny.
