Where is this bolt you're talking about exactly? I've removed several convertible tops and never had an issue. I gotta say I always remove the side panels and the pistons from the car first, so maybe that's the hangup. As for why it would be designed that way, I seriously doubt Saab ever intended for the convertible top frame to come out - why spend a second revising an engineering job to serve a purpose that will never be needed?
