but two things come to mind, one how hot does ethanol burn? No matter what the ignition temp. you need to know how hot it burns to see the temperature differential. (along w/ that expansions properties of the fuel/air mixture will impact power also) The other would be pre-ignition, if the lower ignition temperature translates into premature ignition then the car will compensate by retarding the timing to reduce the efficiency of the engine to make it run cooler. And that translates into poorer mileage.
A lot of these thing people put out as "technical" reasons for a better product generally are not very technical. For instance "Ethanol has a lower ignition temperature and therefor . . . " is a bunch of crap to hang and idea on one statement when there are so many variables to consider.
