This morning I reattached the battery and the car started right up. I was able to turn the engine off but the headlights stayed on, with the key in to off position. I don't know if this is just some weird coincidence or my imagination but when I jiggled the headlight switch I could hear the abs pump kick on as if I had turned the key in the ignition.
The headlight switch was kind of falling apart anyway and basically disintegrated when I pulled it out, It was loose anyway and I had planed on replacing it. I swapped it out for one I had from a parts car and everything seems to be working fine.
The coolant leak seems to be a leak in the water pump shaft. I can feel water underneath the water pump pulley. I also had a seemingly good water pump from the same parts car as the headlight switch. Is there any good way to tell if the pump is good before installing. It is a Saab branded part and seems to turn very smoothly, no grinding or play in the shaft.
Thanks for everyones help. I don't think I would be able to own a Saab with out the support of this board. They are awesome cars, especially when you don't have to pay someone else to fix all the little things.
