tz,
Don't cut the shroud. The more times you deal with those the easier they become (like all things) but the key is...you can't hurt it. Bend it, twist it, force it into place, you can fold it in half if you like, it will just go where you push it and it really needs to be there or you'll end up with something wound around the flywheel.
The propeller is screwed into the shaft with 8 x 1.25 mm threads (those size bolts are all over your Saab). Once it is removed you can screw a bolt in the hole and use a pry bar under the bolt head to pop the shaft out. Some guys put a big socket on there and thread the bolt through the socket so that as you screw the bolt in it pops the shaft out. The shaft is retained with a wire snap ring in a groove on it's surface so all you are overcoming when you pull it out is that and any crust that is on the splines. I've always been able to pop them out with a prybar but a few have required serious leverage.
I noticed that eEruoparts.com shows the actual tool for sale, #8791618 for $9.90, if you have the time and inclination. Make sure that you bend a little handle on one end of your Cu wire too.
