If you have unbolted the engine from the transmission, (you really shouldn't do that until the torque convertor is separated from the flex plate, pushed back and secured), then it's possible that the engine has shifted relative to the transmission case allowing the torque convertor to pull out slightly so that the drive dogs are no longer engaged. If that's the case then it's a matter of manually supporting the torque convertor and rotating it while intermittently pushing on it. Eventually the 2 pump gear dogs and 2 drive tube slots will re-align and the torque convertor will sink into the transmission. Then you can replace the bracket(s) and separate the engine from the transmission.
