I'm familiar w/the standard in vehicle Hall component testing procedures, but in this case, that was less than practical. I needed to test multiple distributors, w/different/newer style wiring sockets that weren't compatible w/my older c900's. It seemed easy enough to sit inside out of the rain & sip beer, listening to Michael Savage rant on the radio while I ascertained which distributors had a heart beat. Not so.
The good news is that it seems I didn't fry anything. The bad news is that I did end up schlepping the whole motley lot out to a car...though it had stopped raining. All but one tested good (at least at 40deg F) w/readings of .04-8.08v, w/the bad one staying steady at 8.07v.
I had to cram the twisted ends of the three different types of salvaged vehicle distributor loom into the pigtail that normally connected to the distributor in the 87' 900t I utilized as a host. It was difficult fighting the urge to run the green wire to the middle position. Black is neg & goes to black, but the green wire is hot & goes to the red Hall power wire, while the brown one mates up to the green Hall sensor output - a sadistic practical joke by a demented Swedish engineer.
So, I don't believe bench testing a Hall transmitter is possible...unless an ignition control unit & possibly a coil is incorporated somehow. I'll be happy to be wrong...but for sure, simply hooking up power to the unit doesn't work.
