Modifying a 88 9000t distributor for use in an 87 900t

I installed an old(est) style Hall wiring plug on an 88' 9000t distributor so it can be used in an 87' 900t. Only after I finished did I realize the drive dog was aligned differently in relation to the rotor & the notch for the cap was in the wrong spot. I'm wondering if simply making another notch for the cap, in an appropriate location, will suffice to keep the timing from getting screwed up.
I know I have to do a little figuring to correctly position the cap since the rotor will be off a few degrees, but it looks to be doable.
Another question is with respect to the position of the hall shutter wheel. Does it matter where it's positioned on the distributor shaft? I don't think it does, but I'm not sure if it's position is critical to injector timing. I figured it'd be wise to put this up for everyones' consideration...especially you Dungeon & Dragon types.
Thanks!
