Emil,
I can't say that for sure (until Saab Junkie generously shares photos of ABS ECU internals) but as far as I'm told it's RAM not ROM where DTC's are stored at.
Re main valve replacement - ABS manual doesn't cover this procedure and neither I've been there. Sorry, no tips on this but the obvious to pressure the system down before doing anything at hydraulic unit or it's surroundings.
