Guys, I did like you said and put the transmission in third gear, and put the shifter in third, with a drill bit (perfect fit) in the alignment holes. Tightened down clamp very carefully so as to keep transmission in third gear.
The result is that 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 5th gear engage very easily. Fourth gear doesn't pull all the way in, it feels like the synchro is bad. I got this transmission from a car with engine problems, for $400, so its possible that 4th gear is just worn out. 155k on trans.
Reverse DOES engage, but I have to really have to pull the shifter and keep holding it, or else it pops out. Also, if I want to get the key out, I have to pull just as hard. IIRC, I shouldnt have to hold it at all. Like you guys said. Is it likely that the reverse lockout needs to be adjusted? Can someone tell me how to do that?
Thanks for everyones help.
Robert
