FUNNY NOTE: the temp gauge has *thus far* today seemed fine -- and NOT pegged above HIGH. <sigh> That said, the gauge does move slightly when the car is first turned on, making me think the gauge is ok right now.
So, I found the Bentley method, but I'm not sure of the results I have. Removing the wire and putting it on a ground does nothing -- the gauge doesn't move (stays at the bottom). I've fiddled with it a few times, but the gauge stays put. I think that would tell me that the wire is bad somewhere, although who knows where...
I was able to remove the left dash speaker to get behind the cluster. My right-hand cluster bulb is blown, so I'll need to replace that. Easy enough. Using a mirror, I also looked to where I *believe* is the back side of the temp gauge. With the car turned on, I fiddled back there a bit, but the gauge never moved. I was hoping for a loose wire or such, but it doesn't appear to be at the gauge itself.
Finally, I borrowed a multi-meter from a neighbor and checked the resistance of the sending wire itself. With the car on, sending wire unplugged, and the positive to the sending wire + negative to ground, the oHm meter kicks up about as high as it can go. I don't know much about multi-meters, so I'm not sure what that says to me.
Thoughts?
