NTC stands for Negative Temperature Coefficient. It's just a thermistor in special packaging. Anders gave a nice explanation as to why it shouldn't be called "an NTC" on this bb a few months back... he also pointed out that they rarely fail (thermistors are pretty reliable, though connectors often are not)...
Your point about a good c900 with a leaky fuel pressure check valve running well, but cranking more than usual is interesting to me... One of ours does take a few cranks to start up (typically 3 vs 1 in the other car) + I have mainly been working on the electrical side of the equation (which has helped solve some of the problems), but I wonder if this might be a contributor also... though our indy put in a new fuel pump about 3 years ago...
