What was being explained in that link is just Saab's goofy intake port design where they lowered the roof of one of each pair of intake ports. They did this to create combustion chamber swirl for better efficiency in lower rpm ranges. I don't look at these late '86 up 16 valve heads as being a bad overall design. In the '91 up naturally aspirated C900's they did get rid of the weird intake port design because they were looking for power improvements as heavy as a C-900 is compared to the Japanese imports. We've been using these '91 up N/A heads along with their intake manifold on C-900T's for years to avoid the expense of our professionally ported '86 up C-900 heads. The '85 and real early '86 C-900 heads didn't have the one each lowered intake port roofs but they had smaller intake ports plus one each of the intake cam lobes had 3mm less lift for the same efficiency reasons as above. Porting an '87 up head is senseless however porting an '85 early '86 head works great if the goofy '85 intake cam is tossed.
