Probably a good way to go and as usual Hans is right on, porting is the least bang for the buck as opposed to the other upgrades Hans mentioned! I've been meaning to measure the intake port ID on an '85 manifold which may be a little smaller than an '85 / late '86 up turbo manifold. My reasoning is that if it is smaller use it if you don't port your '85 head and use the '86 up intake if you do any appreciable porting. My 16 valve model 99 came with an '85 engine which I'm going to stay with (I even have a brand new set of '85 +.50mm Mahle pistons) but I'm not going crazy with porting, just what does the most good. Unfortunately most porting I've seen does more harm than good so when I get a chance I'll put some pictures up on my photos for proper DIY 16 valve porting procedures.
