Darcey, before you swap components, check wires Posted by Cmyles [Email] (#1126) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Cmyles) on Tue, 23 Aug 2011 10:54:40 In Reply to: new to me '87 900 Turbo...low boost issues., darcey, Mon, 22 Aug 2011 15:52:50 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Darcey,
Bad wires and connections are much more common causes of APC problems than are bad components so start by checking for those. Your diagnostics will really benefit from having a manual with the wiring schematic for the APC system. Some guys will email you a scan if needed but a Bentley manual probably has that schematic (right guys?). If someone besides you or a good Saab shop is changing your oils be aware that non-Saab mechanics (and quick change shops especially) have a tendency to wreck these cars by doing brilliant things like draining one unit (engine or transmission) and then (over)filling the other and over tightening the engine oil drain plug and cracking the transmission case (no easy fix for that). The five speed transaxle is intended to run with 10W30 oil same as the engine, not heavy gear oil. There are some good synthetic manual transmission lubricants available from Amsoil and Redline if you want to spend the extra money. You will be well served to learn to do fluid and filter changes yourself.
Have fun.
