I bought a timing light, and finished up the proper timing of my 87 900 Turbo. ALL the sputters and stumbles went away, and she really purrs. Still doesnt boost to the red, but i know i have a vac leak under the dash that just gets louder as i boost more...so ill get to that...
Sad part is, as soon as i timed it up, the smoke came back. I THINK some comes out of the exhaust and/or the engine bay....but its windy around here these days so its hard to tell. I cant recreate it, either. This time though, it def smells like oil. Its very intermittent but a plume of smoke will exit the car for about 3-5 seconds. Some drives it will happen to or three times, sometimes not at all.
Upon inspection, i see a ton of oil around the oil filter. Not pools...but enough to notice it. Also, some oil being sprayed from the oil filler tube....and there was smoke in there when i pulled the cap. Plugs dont look fouled...car runs great.
Im going to buy a compression tester and get to that...but...is this looking like a head gasket? Coolant color is fine, and no oil coolant mix in either direction.
