'93 C900 NA, 256k miles (on chassis, suspension). Was parallel parking into a spot today and heard a loud thunk. Later, upon leaving the parking spot it clunked again, and virtually in every tight cornering situation with noise coming from the DS front.
I assume it is the outer CV joint but have yet to crawl beneath to inspect the unit. I'd like to think that I've done my due diligence using the search box here at saabnet, but I remain in a quandary about how to proceed, given different circumstances described by others. To whit:
1. Some say that if the boot is torn, one could simply (or not so simply) replace the boot, re-lubing the joint at the time, and make it all better;
2. Others say that the right choice is to buy a new half-axle (LH side) that will replace all components from the tripod bearing that fits into the inner cup to the spindle.
3. Still others have noted that option #2 is a bad choice, given the (relatively) short half-life of reman'd axles available at the time of their repair needs.
I need some help to sort this out. My inclination is to pop for the EMPI LH axle available on E-Euro for about $72 (http://www.eeuroparts.com/Parts/PartDetail.php?partCode=805308&diagramId=1090&diagramNumber=12) but I don't want to have to do so again in a year-- or sooner, if it doesn't actually fit.
A little help here would be greatly appreciated!
