I have heard that the new slaves are more prone to pitting, and thus don't hold their seals for as long...
but alas, I threw my OE one out when I re-did the clutch. 4 years later (boston traffic no less) and the slave is fine.
I would have kept it if I knew.
I'd just get a new one, and then shelf the old one so that you can rebuild it in your 'spare time'...ha!
