91 steering wheel shaft rebuild.... Posted by DET17 [Email] (#1254) [Profile/Gallery] (more from DET17) on Sat, 13 Jul 2013 09:38:30 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Got the bugger apart, wheel/SRS aside after using the22mm socket to release the wheel. I've gone in to change the plastic bushing (dead) and bearing (already bought) which are right behind the clock spring for the horn buttons. So far so good, per plan.
Then not so good! Bottom of the steering shaft just above splines/pinch bolt bore, there is a needle bearing mounted in a rubber/plastic bushing, which is pressed into the collapsable gold housing. Of course, the needle bearings are all gone, the cage broken. I don't have this bearing, eEuro does not list it.....and from looking at the shaft it looks like a factory assembly between shaft & needle cage. I don't know what I can easily do other than clean it out pack the void with grease?
Suggestions?
