Getting ready to crank her up after a 7 month snooze... Posted by DET17 [Email] ![]() ![]() |
Well this long strange trip I've been on is about to end. Took the hood off my convertible 91T on Feb. 4th I believe it was.
Dead automatic, now converted to 5 speed. New clutch, rebuilt turbo, rebuilt head, new Rack & pinion with hoses & PS pump, head gasket, every stinking hose, an OEM heater valve that hopefully won't ever fail like the Scantech crap (oh I bought another OEM as a spare as well). Good Lord, it has taken forever. New UCA and LCA bushes, what a good time it is removing those Turbo front springs! Oh yes, the oil pump is primed as per Bentley and Townsend. Newer Harmonic balancer, rebuilt the oil pump (blue printed housing to recover OEM clearances). New radiator. My wife says she DOES NOT WANT to know how much $$$ I've poured into her baby.
Well I've got her full of oil/ oil / coolant, and the only job left is to rebuild the blasted LH2.4 distributor so it will stop burning oil everytime the brakes are applied!
The only question left before eyeball timing the distributor and turning the key....should I attempt to prime the oil pump first by cranking without ignition? Or should I just fire her up? The shortblock is stock with 130K, no new internals, just a freshened head up top.
GIven the crazy oilpump design, there is no way to "prime the pump" a la Small Block Chevy. I sure don't want the injectors spraying fuel down those cylinder walls without running. So I'm a bit torn about any extended cranking.
Let me know folks, as soon as this distributor is done I'm going to light this fire......
