DET,
The most practical way to prime the pump given the situation would be to remove the oil filter adapter block and squirt a bunch of oil through the hole that goes to the pump. That technique is in the Saab factory manual and it works fine. Err on the side of putting more rather than less oil in there because it will take several minutes to replace the adapter while the oil is running down through the pump. Also, watch for the oil pressure light to go out immediately (within a few seconds). If it doesn't it may mean that the pressure relief valve is jammed and needs to be freed up. Even if the valve is jammed the pump will create enough pressure (like 6-8 PSI I think) for no load idling so don't panic.
