it runs out over time? I packed the gear assy. with vaseline as recommended by Townsend. I've seen a few folks challenge his methods but I've always found his methods to work. Once the engine was in the car, before I installed the intake, I removed the oil filter/hose block and filled her up with 10W30 until it was ready to run out the block side. Then installed the new gasket & torqued the oil filter housing back inplace. Bentley has no mention of a time limit, so I presume that oil is captive until those gears turn and put it into the oil galleys.

I'll take RS suggestion (thank you sir, hope to see you in an Atlanta gathering of SAABs sometime) and crank until the oil light on the dash goes out; then fuse the ignition / fuel.

And yes, I'm very aware of the limit on starters and cranking engines for startup. I burned up a SBC starter years ago while trying to fire my Malibu after a cam change. I made the mistake of changing the dwell in the old school points & condensor distributor....you can't read dwell unless the engine is running....catch 22. You also can't see timing strobes on the balancer when you don't have enough saturation to fire the spark! Pain truly is the best teacher.

Well I broke the bottom spacer on my LH distributor whilst pressing out the pin. Damn, did the Germans ever make that pressfit tight (gutentite). Hope my son's spare 90 NA distributor has the right parts in it to cannibalize.

I swear, this 91 Convertible is the last C900........
