One is "replace it when you're in there." In order to replace the pilot bearing it's easier to take the flywheel off anyway.
The other is "if it ain't leaking, don't touch it."
Depends on how confident you are about doing it right.
As 86SPG mentioned, the seal is relatively inexpensive.
You can tell if it's weeping by the lines of baked on oil on the back of the flywheel. (pay no attention to the arrow - that shows where the flywheel pin can be tapped out of the flywheel from the back)
I've tried replacing it with the engine in the car a couple of different ways. Since I'm not a good contortionist, the attempt at tapping it in with a hammer was futile. Got it installed by using "Landjet's shower drain tool"
Replacing it with the engine out is .... well .... a breeze.
