APC pin 12 (Solenoid), low voltage woes. Posted by Rose quartz 87 [Email] (#2119) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Rose quartz 87) on Mon, 12 Jun 2017 11:24:07 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Hi All,
I've been a member for a short while now having lurked for much longer. A great resource for all things Saab, I've never posted before since a search has normally solved any issues I've had so far in the restoration of my car.
However, having said that, I've run into a problem with My 87s' APC and would appreciate some help.. My apologies if this is a little long winded, I'll try and keep it short. I've attached a schematic from a German site. (I'm not German, but it's an easy to understand schematic of the APC!).
My APC solenoid is not clicking in my 87 3 door hatch, both when brake peddle is pressed and when connecting and disconnecting the solenoid connector. It clicks when I connect it directly to the battery. I'm testing the APC at the box connector terminals, (back probing), with APC solenoid disconnected, (Solenoid connector wires cut, so testing done directly on the copper wire), APC box unplugged.
Pin 13, (power to APC), and ground pin 5, I get battery voltage with key on, (Run position).
Pin 20, (circuit through brake switch) and ground I was getting 1.5 volts drop from battery voltage. I replaced the brake switch and was still getting the voltage drop. I then separated the wires going into the drivers rear brake light power connector and then got battery voltage at Pin 20. This tells me I have a grounding problem in the rear brake wiring/circuits. (Cleaned trunk ground, still got voltage drop, so next is checking bulbs and wiring).
Pin 12. I understand the yellow/white wire is the key on positive supply, (+54), and that it runs from pin 12, to the red top cruise vacuum switch and then to the solenoid.
I'm getting 1 volt less than battery voltage when testing at pin 12 and ground, (APC box connected).
When I jump pins 12 and 13, (Box disconnected) I get battery voltage at the solenoid with key on, (+54). This tells me the wiring is fine.
I thought, well it must the box, so I then tested with another APC box, (Same box number), and I'm getting the same results.
What am I missing here? Why would there be a voltage drop at pin 12? Does anybody here have any other directions I can take to test/solve this? (APC pin connectors themselves not seating properly? Something else in cruise control?).
Many thanks in advance. I know it's a confusing post.
