Well, I had some free time today so I figured why not, let's try and smog the SPG as-is.
Did not work. :D
The upside of this experiment is that I got to see what was coming out of the tailpipe first hand, and I *think* it's just coolant at this point, but it's tough to tell for sure... it's tough to distinguish the color of a small amount of "smoke" from 30' away through glass. But, there is definitely something coming out of the tailpipe. I've not seen much in the way of oil consumption on this car ever, but maybe I need to keep driving it and monitor... because with a failed head gasket I'm not so sure wat value a leakdown test would be.
All that said, the car did not fail for smoke (wasn't enough) but rather failed for NOx at 15mph. I suspect it's an old crappy cat. The exhaust has been on my to-do list for 8 years now because it's Super Janky and now it seems I'm gonna need to do that before retesting it.
There's the update. I'll put the SPG in the service position tonight, and hopefully have it wrapped up before the registration renewal is due in May. It's three months. It should be attainable. :)
