I did adjust the ebrake before bleeding. I'll try bleeding again with the handbrake off (was on last time). I also have fairly new teflon/stainless steel lines all the way round. My best guess at this point is that I've somehow managed to trash my 2-year old brand new TRW master cylinder.
I also ordered a set of rebuilt calipers and a rebuilt master. I rebuilt my other calipers myself and I can't believe I screwed up such a simple process. I also have spares for the core charge, so at some point I am going to go total scorched Earth and replace every frigging component - stay tuned. We are going to have some great weather this weekend - would much rather be driving around in it than wrenching, but at least I won't be sweating like a pig while I run this down.
Been driving my spare, a 1999 Subaru Legacy Outback. It's a great car (looks nice and runs well + air conditioning), just not any fun to drive <sigh>.
