Hello,
I usually check the ignition switch by checking for power at the TSI socket. That is the round 6 pin connector molded into the fuse panel. It is located towards the front of the car on the fuse panel. 5 of the 6 pins are used. The unused pin is number 6. They are numbered in an anti/counter-clockwise direction. Pin 1 is +30 which is from the battery. Pin 2 is ground. Pin 3 is the start circuit. Pin 4 is +15 from the ignition switch. Pin 5 is ignition pulse from the ignition control module.
To check the ignition switch I use a voltmeter to check Pin 4/ +15 when the ignition key is in the run position and also when it is in the start position and the engine is cranking. Then I check voltage on Pin 1/ +30 when the ignition key is the run and start positions. They voltage reading should be almost the same. If Pin 4 is reading 7 volts and Pin 1 is reading 12 volts your problem is the ignition switch. If it appears to be the ignition switch I will use a fused jumper wire that I connect at Pin 1 and Pin 4 to see if it will start the car. Is should if the ignition switch is failing. Do not leave the jumper wire in there when you are done testing. It will supply power to a bunch of things that are off when the ignition switch is in the off position. The battery will die and it could harm the car. Any more questions just ask. Good Luck, Bernie
